The Bay School of San Francisco and International Battle to Scoreless Draw
The Bay School and International High School battled to a 0–0 draw in a tightly contested match that saw Bay control much of the possession but struggle to break down a disciplined International defense. Lenin Yee (So., No. 8) and Teo Graham Cook (Sr., No. 10) helped Bay dictate play through the midfield, while center back Isaac Baristiran (Jr., No. 23) anchored the Breakers defensively.
International found success with a different approach, staying compact defensively and looking to attack quickly in transition. Adam Moore (No. 11) was at the center of much of International's threat going forward, while Yaseen Alrammah (No. 14) also caused problems with his technical ability and willingness to take defenders on one-on-one. Behind them, Alex McNeill (No. 19) provided a steady presence in defensive midfield, helping International withstand Bay's possession advantage while remaining dangerous on the counter.
The opening stages offered little separation between the two sides. Bay began to establish more control of the ball without creating much in the final third, while International's back line handled the early pressure well.
One of Bay's more promising first-half moves came when Noah Michaels (So., No. 24) played a well-weighted ball forward toward Noah Leopold (Sr., No. 14), but International recovered defensively before the move could develop into a clear opportunity.
International responded with a free kick near the top of the penalty area, but the effort went over the crossbar.
As the half progressed, Bay's quality in midfield became increasingly apparent. Yee was particularly composed in possession, consistently giving the Breakers an outlet through the middle and helping them maintain control of the match. Graham Cook was similarly comfortable on the ball, while Gabe Amgalanbaatar (Sr., No. 11) provided another technical presence in wider areas.
International remained difficult to break down, while Bay continued to show quality in midfield. Yee was calm under pressure and distributed the ball effectively, helping Bay play through International's pressure when opportunities arose.
At the other end, Baristiran put together a strong first half at center back. He made a well-timed challenge to stop a promising International attack after No. 9 was played into space and later stepped in again to break up a counterattack in the closing minutes of the half.
Neither side was able to generate a clear breakthrough before halftime. Bay entered the break with the greater share of possession, but International's defensive organization ensured the match remained scoreless.
International opened the second half with increased pressure, and the match gradually became more transitional. Bay continued to see more of the ball, but International began finding opportunities to attack the space behind the Breakers' defense.
That approach produced arguably the best chance of the match with roughly 23 minutes remaining. Moore unlocked the Bay defense with a well-placed pass behind the back line for No. 9, who met it with a first-time shot. Bay goalkeeper Eli Levison (Jr., No. 0) responded with an excellent save to keep the match level.
It was the clearest example of the danger Moore provided throughout the match. Comfortable carrying the ball and operating from wider areas, he gave International an outlet when it transitioned forward and was directly involved in its best opportunity of the afternoon.
McNeill was equally important deeper in midfield. He defended effectively in front of the International back line while showing composure when his side regained possession, helping disrupt Bay's rhythm and providing an important link when International looked to counter.
Alrammah gave International another threat further forward. The winger was highly technical with the ball at his feet and repeatedly showed the confidence to challenge defenders one-on-one. His ability to carry possession into dangerous areas gave Bay another attacker to account for whenever International broke forward.
Bay's defense, led centrally by Baristiran, continued to handle those moments well. International found space on several transitions, but the Breakers repeatedly recovered before those attacks could turn into clear looks at goal.
The match remained finely balanced entering the closing stages. Bay continued to dictate more of the possession through Yee and its midfield, while International remained comfortable absorbing pressure and waiting for opportunities to counter.
Alrammah nearly created a breakthrough late when he worked his way into a dangerous position near the penalty area. He looked to pull the ball back across goal but was unable to find a teammate before Bay cleared the danger.
International then earned one final opportunity from a free kick just outside the right side of the penalty area with less than two minutes remaining. Alrammah stepped up to take it but sent the attempt wide right.
The final whistle confirmed a 0–0 draw after a match in which both teams found success in different areas. Bay's technical midfield allowed the Breakers to control significant stretches of possession, with Yee at the center of much of that work, while Baristiran delivered a strong performance behind him at center back.
International countered with an organized defensive performance and a dangerous transition game. Moore provided much of the attacking spark, Alrammah offered another technical threat in the final third, and McNeill's work in defensive midfield helped hold the structure together behind them. Neither side ultimately found the final touch needed to turn those strengths into a goal, leaving the two teams to share the result after a competitive scoreless draw.
