Editorial standards

InsideTheNinety covers high school soccer. Most of the people we write about are teenagers, and many of them are being written about publicly for the first time. That shapes how we work. This page sets out the rules we hold ourselves to.

Covering minors

Almost everyone we cover is under 18. We report on them as athletes in public competition, which is what the coverage is for, and we keep it there.

  • We report on games, performances, and the sport. We do not report on players’ personal lives, health, discipline records, or family circumstances.
  • We do not publish contact details, home addresses, class schedules, or anything else that would help someone find a player off the pitch.
  • A player, parent, or guardian can ask us to take content down and we will. No reason needed. See remove my content.
  • We do not use a player’s name, photo, or likeness in advertising, sponsorship, or merchandise without written permission from them and, where they are under 18, from a parent or guardian.

Accuracy and corrections

We are a small operation covering a lot of games, and we will get things wrong. When we do, we fix it and we say so.

  • Tell us at insidetheninety@gmail.com. Corrections go to the front of the queue.
  • When we materially change a published story, we add a dated correction note to the bottom of it saying what changed. We do not quietly edit and move on.
  • We fix typos and formatting without a note. Facts, names, scores, and quotes always get one.

Sourcing

  • Scores, schedules, and team records come from CIF sources and from what we and our contributors see at games. Where a result is disputed, we say so rather than picking one.
  • Photos and clips submitted by readers are published only when the contributor has confirmed they have the right to share them.
  • We credit photographers and videographers where we know who they are. If we have used your work uncredited, tell us and we will fix it.

Independence

We do not currently run advertising or take sponsorship. If that changes, sponsored content will be labelled as sponsored, clearly and at the top, and it will not be written to order about individual players.

Questions

Anything on this page, or anything we have published, is fair game for a question. Email insidetheninety@gmail.com.
