San Ramon Valley Holds Off Berkeley Surge to Claim 2–1 Victory

San Ramon Valley weathered sustained pressure from Berkeley to secure a hard-earned 2–1 victory in a match where efficiency in front of goal proved decisive against a Panthers side that controlled long stretches of possession. Early in the match, Berkeley looked comfortable on the ball as midfielders Henry Banks (#8) and Henry Markus (#10) dictated the tempo, circulating possession and keeping SRV pinned in their half during the opening stages.

Despite Berkeley’s early control, San Ramon Valley struck first through one of their most dangerous weapons. Quinn Rice (#9) launched a long throw into the box that immediately caused chaos. The first header thundered off the crossbar before the rebound was headed back into the net with roughly 32 minutes remaining in the half, giving SRV a 1–0 lead against the run of play.

Berkeley continued to dominate possession after conceding, with Banks and Markus controlling the midfield and probing for openings. A dangerous free kick delivery from Henry Banks forced the SRV goalkeeper into a strong intervention, pushing the ball wide to concede a corner as Berkeley began building momentum through set pieces and sustained pressure around the box.

San Ramon Valley, however, remained dangerous in transition. With about 18 minutes left in the half, SRV doubled their lead through a moment of individual brilliance from Aidan DePaco (#16). Racing onto a ball played over the top, DePaco beat his defender and from an extremely tight angle rifled a left-footed strike into the top corner to make it 2–0.

SRV nearly added another before halftime when Hudson Forrest (#7) rose to meet a cross but saw his header drift just over the bar. Berkeley responded with a dangerous free kick from Calder Corson (#6) that was ultimately headed away as SRV’s defense continued to withstand waves of possession from the Panthers.

The second half saw Berkeley raise the intensity further. The Panthers pushed higher up the field and continued to dictate the ball through Banks and Markus as chances began to emerge. Their persistence finally paid off with around 20 minutes remaining when Calder Corson (#6) stepped up to a free kick just outside the box and drove a low strike into the bottom corner to pull Berkeley back within one at 2–1.

From that moment on, Berkeley pushed relentlessly for an equalizer. A dangerous cross from Jasper Kirsch (#12) nearly produced a tap-in at the back post before SRV cleared the danger, while a cleverly worked free kick moments later forced an outstanding save from the San Ramon Valley goalkeeper, Brayden Kimball. Another flicked header from a corner required yet another strong stop as Berkeley continued to threaten late.

Despite the late surge, San Ramon Valley’s defense held firm through the closing minutes. Berkeley continued to press deep into the final moments, but SRV managed the pressure and saw out the result to secure the victory.

Final Score: San Ramon Valley 2–1 Berkeley
